The Intermodal Insurance Company was established in 2003 by a group of seasoned Intermodal Drayage owners and the founder of the Intermodal Carriers Association of North America (ICANA), a network of over 500 individual owner/operators and fleet owners. Our founders, and now an active part of our leadership team, know and understand the particular needs of the intermodal transportation industry and formed the company with two core goals:
- Ensure stability of programs and rates
- Provide predictability of premiums
In an effort to meet those goals, we were the first insurance company to ever conduct an intermodal drayage actuarial study that clearly identified the need for this underserved market. We substantiated that this was a desirable and profitable class of business and today use the study today as benchmarks for how we conduct our business.
Today we are an A rated insurance company with Demotech, the industry standard for rating regional insurance companies. We are one of the most financially stable companies in the industry and offer an insurance program for the intermodal transportation industry that is the most reliable with the most predictable premium structure in the nation. Our rates reflect the actual loss history and risk assessment from each individual insured and do not fluctuate due to outside economic factors that have no direct impact on your business.
Our primary insurance partner is National Intersate Insurance Company, a $450 million dollar AM Best A- rated insurance carrier and we act as the direct reinsurance company, meaning, we are not shopping the policy to multiple carriers, rather we assert direct control of policy management, risk quotients and coverage options. Our track record for success is undeniable and our ownership structure means there is direct accountability for the success of our company.
Serving all 50 states, our customer operations are based in Commerce, California, administrative operations based in Sarasota, Florida and Regulatory and Compliance in Washington, DC.
